 ABOUT US

The Carbon Accountability Programme

  • Our work will help businesses to be confident that their green choices are effective and rewarded
  • Our findings will help consumers have confidence in the actions they take to reduce carbon
  • Our partnerships with business and NGOs will help to develop carbon accountability solutions with consistency and transparency

The Carbon Accountability Programme aims to ensure confidence in our actions to reduce carbon. Accountability in carbon reduction policies and carbon schemes can:

  • Ensure the robustness and transparency of an organisation’s carbon reduction claims
  • Create confidence in the way we account for carbon reductions in schemes like offsetting and green electricity tariffs
  • Enhance participation as stakeholder confidence increases and ensure carbon reduction policies are value for money
  • Promote a well-functioning carbon price reflecting carbon risks and costs
 How we work

Briefings
We research and produce briefings in key carbon accountability areas to inform the process of building effective and transparent carbon policies and markets. View our briefings.

Participative partnerships
We seek to create participative partnerships with financial institutions and other businesses to develop carbon accountability tools. Find out more about becoming a partner.

The CAP is hosted by Friends of the Earth Scotland and seed funded by Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.
